The personal website of Chris Northwood

I'm Chris Northwood - often found online using the handle laser, or some variation of this. I also hold the radio callsign 2E0NTW, however I've been dormant for some time. I'm hoping to get back into radiosport soon, though.

I currently work for the BBC as a Graduate Software Engineer.

I've completed an MSc in Computer Science with Speech and Language Processing at The University of Sheffield, gaining a distinction. I also have gained a 2:1 for my undergraduate degree in BEng Computer Science at the University of York.

I've worked on multiple award-winning projects, including The Guardian's Student Media Award for Best Website whilst the technical lead on Nouse.co.uk, the UCISA Award for Excellence whilst lead developer on Mobile Oxford, as well as personally winning the Greg Dyke Award for Outstanding Achievement.

Does anyone else have Flickr? Just spent ages uploading tonnes of Uni photos to it. I even got a Pro account and stuff!

I’m really getting into this Web 2.0 stuff. So much better than crap such as MySpace. Even Alcuin College is Web 2.0 (in such things as properly formed URIs and RSS)

I’m been considering dropping the image gallery on my own website and using Flickr instead. Might even add an RSS parser for LiveJournal to display that on my site…

Oh well!

In other news, back home in Doncaster, bored, etc, etc.

Well, been ages since I last did a proper blog. Lot’s of fun stuff has happened, such as snow and the Uni closing our bar (which lead to a long campaign).

I’ve been swamped with work, but I’m keeping on top of it alright.

Don’t really know what else to say, other than the fact I owned First York. They overcharged me for a ticket and the bus driver was really quite rude to me so I wrote a letter of complaint and got a reply complete with 4 free journey vouchers, ftw!

Home in a week, kind of looking forward to seeing people again (family and friends) and having a break from Uni work.
