Well, today is the last day. Driving back tomorrow, taking 2 hour shifts with my Dad and trying to do the whole journey in one day. Autoroute reckons it’s a 13 hour trip, but that’s a bit optimistic in my opinion.

On Wednesday, we went to the new A75/E11 autoroute (which is French for motorway) to have a look at the new Viaduc Millau (Millau Viaduct). It is quite a sight (British designed too), although whether or not it was worth a 3 hour round trip is debatable.

The house is really coming along now. The bathroom is looking more and more like a bathroom; there’s a mirror on the wall, and I’m informed we can start tiling the floor soon. Paul (the artisan/builder) is going to lay plywood tomorrow (or the day after). All that then needs doing is the walls and the electrics to be finished.

We’ve been stripping paint from the shutters and re-painting them Picture here

We were supposed to be going canoeing today, but the parents went to the builders last night for a meal, and didn’t get back to mid-morning, making it too late to go to the river.

Pulled down the big tree 2 days ago. Pictures follow

Day 5…

First of all, I should probably say yay for Semagic because it can backdate entries and also queue them for later posting. So, when I next connect to the ‘net, it will post all of these entries with the correct date and time. :) .

Anyway, More photos lurk

2 days rolled into one!

Yesterday was pretty boring. Not much happened/got done. We did some more tree clearing and you can see the extent of the damage

A day by day account of my holiday follows, for a lack of things to do.

Day 1 was fairly boring, just driving down. I drove for a stretch of the M20 in the UK (between the M25 interchange and Ashford) and then the A10 south of Paris to Orléans.

We got an interesting phone call just north of Paris, though. Turns out there’s been a freak storm here, damaging the house and what not. Parents aren’t best pleased with this news.

Spent the night in a motel room smelling of cig smoke.

Now we’re onto today, or day 2. I drove down the A71 for a few hours and then my parents drove down the back roads to the house. And then we got here, with the builders here and surveyed the damage. They’d manage to patch up the worst of the roof – some of the tiles had just moved so they just needed to be relocated. About a quarter of the roof is destroyed though, so they’ve just waterproofed and tarpaulined that up. A lot of windows are smashed, and there’s glass everywhere. The storm ripped up a fair few trees – especially on the flat area of land, so we’ve had to clear those up before we could do anything.

That’s about it, really. I’ve taken some pictures to show the house and the damage. Not for 56k’ers
